Buying indoor ceiling access points: what to look for
Indoor access points mount on the ceiling or wall and spread WiFi evenly across a room or corridor. WiFi 6 (802.11ax) models handle many phones and laptops at once much better than older WiFi 5 models, so they are the better buy for hotels and busy offices.
Look at three things when choosing: the WiFi standard (WiFi 6 or newer), the uplink port speed, and how you want to manage them (cloud app, local controller or standalone).
Questions
Is WiFi 6 worth it over WiFi 5?
Yes for any site with many users. WiFi 6 shares airtime between devices more efficiently, so speeds hold up better when the room is full. Most new phones and laptops support it.
Can I mix access points from different brands?
They will all broadcast WiFi, but roaming and management work best with one brand per site, managed from one controller.
